Encryption

Powerful encryptions lock your data so only the proper key will read itDigital encryption allows for the safe transmission of sensitive material between networks. Powerful encryptions are what make it possible for us to shop online with our credit cards, e-file our taxes to the government, even apply for loans or lines of credit without having to leave our homes. Encryption can also be used to hide incriminating files within a local drive, typically with password protection. While no encryption is 100% secure, decoding encrypted files is extraordinarily difficult without access to the appropriate password.

Powerful computer graphics cards, or GPUs, are used in large banks to rapidly decrypt passwords. Password cracking in this manner is called a brute-force attack. The growth of cloud processing has provided an additional avenue for faster, more efficient password cracking.

A single password, regardless of length and complexity, will eventually be cracked by brute force. Redundant security measures, such as Google’s 2-Step Verification, help protect your information even when a password is cracked, but even these multi-factor authentication systems have weak spots.

Digital encryption has become a paramount issue to security researchers. In the near future, quantum cryptography may have the potential to provide perfect security across wireless networks, even if the device contains a tracking chip.
